A People’s Tribunal
A People’s Tribunal 2019 · Tableau · miniature installation
A People’s Tribunal is a tableau work — a constructed miniature scene that takes up the form of the people’s tribunal as a site of witness, testimony, and judgment. Built at the scale of a model, it reconstructs the staging of a hearing so that the apparatus of accountability itself becomes the subject: who is called to testify, who is tried, and who is granted standing to speak.
The piece sits alongside Al-Adeeb’s ongoing engagement with people’s tribunals as forms of redress for militarized dispossession and the destruction of Iraq — including her later testimony before the International People’s Tribunal on U.S. Imperialism.
